Quick Weekend Roadtrip

It had been a long time since we had been on a road trip, so when the opportunity came to drive 5 hours southeast to celebrate our nephew's 16th birthday last weekend we decided to go. It actually felt good to be taking a trip again - it helped that the kids did exceptionally well. They watched an awful lot of "Busytown Mysteries" while Matt got to have uninterrupted conversations. I also got a lot of knitting done.

Pit stop selfie.

Our nephew got a car for his birthday! It was fun watching him be surprised.

On the drive back home, Matt stopped at Pistacia Vera to buy a big box of macarons to take home.

He knows the way to my heart, that man. :)

As always after any trip, it's so good to be home, sleeping in our own bed with our kids on their proper nap/bedtime schedules. We were nervous taking a long trip with two kids in diapers, but it went really smoothly. I think we'll be ready to do it again at Christmas time!

Peeks of the Weekend

Last Saturday we drove up to OH to visit Matt's family over Labor Day weekend.

We got to spend some special time with this guy on the way up, since my mother in law
took Olive up with her on Thursday.

Travel comforts - a cup of Starbucks and the September issue of Vogue.
(Can you believe I got through the whole thing over the 6 hour drive? And I didn't even get car sick!)

 Reunited with Olive!
I missed her so, so much.
But she was having so much fun with cousins that I don't think she missed us at all.

Ok, she might have missed Daddy a little bit. Daddy is her favorite.
And I'm ok with that.

She had so much fun with cousins, aunts and uncles that she was sound asleep
before we even got out of my in-laws' driveway.
And this kid NEVER sleeps in the car.
EVER!

We stopped in Morgantown, WV on the way home.
We stayed at a great hotel (The Euro Suites. Totally recommend it if you ever have to be in MoTown.)

Silas mastered the art of sitting up by himself.
And I realized that he is growing way too fast and that I do not like it one little bit.

We had a good breakfast Monday morning.
Cracker Barrel has surprisingly good coffee.
And really good parfaits.

2 of my siblings live/go to school in Morgantown.
It was a lot of fun to hang out with them for a bit.

And now we're back home and trying to get back into the swing of things.
And unpacking...
(Which is the absolute worst part of any trip.)

our quick stop at the OH state fair

we were only able to stay an hour or two, but during that time we got to see: some cute animals (and one unfortunate pig..) some neat rides, we watched a couple of marching bands, and smelled tons and tons of pretty much every sort of fried food imaginable. (deep fried butter? deep fried pepsi? seriously guys. these must be the sins-unto-death of the food world. shudder.)

we'd love to go back one year when we have more time! looked like there was so much to see and do!
